Tackle twill can be customized through fabric colour, stitching style, and logo size. We stock a wide range of traditional collegiate and team colours. Choose a classic zigzag stitch or a denser satin stitch for a bold, patch-like border. Tackle twill works especially well for large centre-front or centre-back designs on hoodies and jackets.
How do we do it?
After creating the vector artwork in Corel, we use our Universal flatbed laser to cut the lettering or design out of twill. From there, we use our embroidery software to build the stitch file around the actual cut pieces, telling the machine where and how everything needs to be stitched down.
Then it all comes together at the embroidery machine. We hoop the garment, position the twill pieces, and stitch them into place. Depending on the design, we can layer multiple pieces of twill to create that traditional varsity or collegiate appliqué look.

Because appliqué requires significant setup, the minimum order is 12 pieces.
What Colours Work Best?
For most orders, we use stock-colour tackle twill, which is available in a limited range of colours.
The good news? If a professional sports team has used the colour, chances are we can source tackle twill to match it!
Are all logos good for applique?
The best appliqué logos use big, bold blocks of text—think GAP or UBC. These iconic appliqué hoodies work so well because the lettering is large, simple, and easy to read.
If your name or wording is more than about 12 characters across the chest, we may recommend direct embroidery instead. It usually gives longer text a cleaner, more balanced finished look.
Is it expensive?
Appliqué is more time-consuming than standard embroidery, so yes—it is considered a premium decoration service.

How long does this take?
2-3 weeks. Production timelines begin once both your product selections and artwork have been approved. Any delays in approvals may affect your final completion date—so the sooner everything is confirmed, the sooner we can get started!
